Dropped Ascender

Post by WhiskeyKid » Tue Aug 28, 2007 10:49 am

I was on U-Wall this past weekend and dropped an ascender from the first anchor while I was rapping off in the rain. As I watched it fall to the ground I figured that it was gone for good, but when I got to the ground there it was! Right in the middle of the trail. Anyways, I've tested it out and it seems to work fine, and there's no sign of serious damage, I'm wondering if I should use it or not. I already scrapped the biner that was on it, but when I jug a line I always use a gri-gri as a back-up, so even if it piles up on a climb I can't see it being a life and death thing.

Any input?

use it if it doesnt look damaged. TGhe rep from BD once told us at a product knowledge that after dropping a haulbag off of the Captain they Xrayed and pull tested all of the gear and only one biner did not pull to full strength.

Yeah, that was kinda my thinking too. I'm going to set up a fixed line treadmill this weekend and put some miles on it, see if it slips at all.
