Kootenay Beta?

I am looking at spending the summer in the Kootenay region. I'm excited about the Bugaboos and some hiking but is there any bouldering that you guys know of? Any climbing info would be much appreciated. I think I will be centered around Elk Lake Provincial Park.

oh yeah, there's tons.
if you are going to be in elk lakes just google "fernie climbing" there's an online guidebook to the crowsnest area

pick up the rockies bouldering guide (get the 2nd ed.) from rmbooks too

I was looking at the bouldering guide for the canadian rockies tonight but I didn't see anything. Perhaps it was first edition?

I think the Frank Slide is in the 1st ed and that's in crowsnest pass more or less... maybe you were looking in the wrong part of the book?

No you're right about the Frank Slide info being in there. I think I was just a bit confused as to where I was in relation to crows nest pass and that area.

It's possible (likely) that I will be without a car so I am either going to have to find some cool local stuff or make some climbing friends! Hopefully both!

Any other suggestions of things (climbs) I should check out?

Really, if you are in Elk Lakes, it's going to be easier for you to get to the Kananaskis in Alberta than to most areas in the Kootenays.

Without a car? Well... I guess you are going to have to develop your own problems.

The elk lakes is full of rock .. mostly unclimbed. I've wanted to develope it for years but i'm stuck on the west coast (oh well). bring your shoes and sense of adventure. only word of caution is some of the rock is weak and crumbly!

Stone hill just over the montana border is also excelent climbing!!

If you're going to be around the bugs, check out Spillimacheen, just down the road. It's primarily a sport crag, with tons of moderate routes on bomber rock. The route guide is $2 at 180 sports in Golden.

Any other spots the guidebook is sold? I may not be through Golden for awhile.
