Right on Joe, sounds like a blast. Do you have any of the problems picked out?

Just curious ... do the Chief park people know you are doing this? And have you discussed with Squamish Access Society?

:-) I need some help from Squamish. I'm willing to pay too.

- Someone to pick up a rental BBQ (needs a truck) on Sat night (Aug 22) from 1007 Industrial Way, Squamish (next to Wal-Mart)
- Bring to the Chief parking lot 8:30am on Sun (Aug 24), pick up around 7pm and store at home
- Bring it back to the rental place on Monday (Aug 25) morning.

Do you know anyone who has time and a truck and willing to do this? Thanks! Joe 7789997104

Joe, would you mind explaining again the precise steps by which you got this event approved? When you contacted BC Parks, did you claim to have already consulted other local groups?

Toby, not trying to be a dick, but why do you care so much about Parks and SAS approval? It seems that Joe took all the necessary steps to make this a legitimate, official event, which he already explained to you. Is it really that big a deal?

When I first read about this thing, it seemed like a terrible idea (squeezing more cars into a car park that is already overflowing on summer weekends, crowding out popular problems, trail erosion, a general feeling that comps belong indoors) but I guessed that was just me being a tedious old fart, and anyway it's all for charidee so must be fine. But then recently I discovered that plenty of other Squamish people felt the same way. So I wondered how it got approved? After emailing a few people I am discovering that it is hard to square the various accounts of who wrote what to whom to gain approval - hence the fresh questions to Joe.

Do you have kids, Nate? If so, you may be familiar with the following scenario. Small boy wants to stay up another hour beyond bedtime playing on his Wii/ PS3/ iPad. Parents are busy and in different parts of the house. Small boy asks Mom for permission who replies "go ask your father" ... child does that but Dad asks "what did your mother say?". Child replies "oh, she doesn't mind?". Small boy wins the extra hour.

There are some personalities that have a mad compulsion to herd and organize, and herding is a modified form of predatory behaviour.

Self-aggrandizement is the basis in this effort, and the issue becomes taboo under the aegis of “Charity for Children”.

"Squamish Rampage" or, how far can we lower the bar to appeal to a yob-like sensibility.

Chacun à son goût, I suppose, but the motivation is rather common and banal, and so is the event.
