Death block alert! Claim Jumper

Post by BK » Wed Jul 09, 2014 9:56 pm

A precarious death block has been discovered on Claim Jumper, just as it joins Perspective at the final easy climbing. Its on the right side of CJ crack, generally off line of Perspective and can be avoided for claim jumper too. Its not terribly obvious but it does flex, and it sure looks sketchy - so avoid it or better yet, take a little pry bar up there and jimmy it off. Let us know if you do!

A skull and crossbones warning was chalked on at the base....

Claim jumper death block is now gone, and it didn't take much of a wiggle with the pry bar. A pull of a hand could have done it easy!

Heads up out there. there was no real visible hint that this one was unstable at all. I gave a few other features a test or two ( like the stack of blocks after the crux on Perspective) and it all seemed pretty good.

As a matter of interest, next time you're there look to the left of the crux on Perspective and you'll see a dining table sized scar, fairly fresh. About 6 or so years ago that lept off the cliff totally natural, no help from the climber right beside it and if the belayer hadn't executed a spectacularly quick barrel roll toward the cliff, He'd a been a messy red streak of history. Again, very little visible hint of instability .
