Handjammies are cheating!
Handjammies are cheating!
This should spark some life into the winter doldrums, so:
Whereas, wrapping rubber around your hands definitely makes jamming easier and,
Whereas, rubber wrapped around your hands is not the same as taping for pain/damage to your hands,
Whereas, don't give me the "you wear rubber soled climbing shoes don't you"
Be it resolved, that wearing handjammies is cheating.
Comments?

Re: Handjammies are cheating!
It should not be considered cheating..
the reasoning behind this opinion is as follows; one who uses these "jammies", uses them to assist upward progress.
the merriam-webster dictionary defines "assist as:
Main Entry: 1as·sist
Pronunciation: \ə-ˈsist\
Function: verb
Etymology: Middle French or Latin; Middle French assister to help, stand by, from Latin assistere, from ad- + sistere to cause to stand; akin to Latin stare to stand — more at stand
Date: 15th century
transitive verb
: to give usually supplementary support or aid to <assisted the boy with his lessons>
intransitive verb
1 : to give support or aid <assisted at the stove> <another surgeon assisted on the operation>
2 : to be present as a spectator <the ideal figures assisting at Italian holy scenes — Mary McCarthy>
after reviewing the definition, the reader can easily identify the repetitive use of the word "aid". Thus; the only conclusion is that "jammies" are not a way to "cheat" the method of free climbing but instead, an application of aid climbing.
As long as those who use jammies do not classify themselves as free climbers, all is well..

that's so embarrassing, peter. that you are fishing to estimate the amount of ridicule that will be poured upon you when you buy a pair. hand jammies are not cheating, son. they are just BAD STYLE. but they sure will feel secure when you clip that bolt, eh? the only person that i know who can wear them without recourse is dirty harry. although, if you did get a pair, y'know- that joke has got LEGS. don't climb with them around my kids, ok?
cheers then, stewart

I'm think if we can wear rubber on our feet, knees, elbows (and nether parts), then it's OK to wear Handjammies.
Re: Handjammies are cheating!
Where does 30 layers of tape on your hands to fit in a crack fall into the equation?

If you're still struggling with the idea, just think of it as a prophylactic.

That's cheating too. As is wearing clothes.

Next time I'm gonna wrap my hands & wrists with bicycle innertubes and tape before climbing split beaver.. and then tell everybody that I sent it!
Re: Handjammies are cheating!
Next time I'm going to squeeze my self into a full body black rubber unitard. This way I could climb even the hardest Apron slabs with ease. All I'd have to do is lay flat on the rock and undulate my body like a giant black slug. Dancing In The Light, here I come.mcfly wrote:Next time I'm gonna wrap my hands & wrists with bicycle innertubes and tape before climbing split beaver.. and then tell everybody that I sent it!

As for the original question ... who cares? As long as you aren't damaging the rock or ruining the environment for others, climb as you enjoy it.
Also, this troll is weak.

Next time I'm going to strip naked, lube myself from head to foot in axle grease, pop on the roller skates and onsight free solo split beaver. Again.
