Upper Mamquam Blind Channel
Upper Mamquam Blind Channel
The District of Squamish is hosting a Public Workshop on the Upper Mamquam Blind Channel.
The Upper Mamquam Blind Channel is an important hub in Squamish, joining Valleycliffe to Downtown, linking Smoke Bluffs Park to tidal waters, and connecting our industrial past with the present. You’re invited to share your ideas about the future of this important area of our community.
Thursday Feb. 23, 2012 from 7 – 9pm Garibaldi Room, Howe Sound Inn
37801 Cleveland Avenue
For more information visit www.squamish.ca
Please note, there is some climbing in the Upper Blind Channel that is threatened by private ownership, this workshop, may or may not address that.

Re: Upper Mamquam Blind Channel
The Upper Mamquam Blind Channel should be a huge issue for climbers as it is potentially a new highly visible gateway to Smoke Bluff's Park.
And these are not minor or obscure crags where access is threatened. We are talking about the Zip which has one of the best 5.10 cracks in Squamish, as well as other lower tier climbs like Ferrets Folly.
See this discussion for more:
The Zip is on Private Property
If anybody goes to this meeting tonight can they post up a summary of what they learned?

I'd be interested too, in learning any new developments in the area. It looks like the access issue is going nowhere fast.
The Zip, Ferret's Folly, and Fatty Bolger are even being left out of the next edition of the guidebook, much like many of the lower Malemute climbs were left out in the last few editions. It would be great if eventually this undevelopable land could be brought in as part of the Smoke Bluff Park, but that will likely be years away, if ever.
