Request for input: SAS re-bolting Phase 3

Post by The_SAS_David_Jones » Sun Oct 09, 2011 2:07 pm

Hi Everyone,

SAS is collecting a list of possibilities for routes in need of re-bolting this coming off-season. We already have a potential list of sport routes in Chek. etc. We are particularly interested in suggestions for multi-pitch and/or trad routes that will serve to open up the possibilities to previously neglected climbs thereby spreading out the climbing public.

To be clear this effort is re-bolting only (ie. bolt for bolt) to upgrade dated and dangerous hardware. We will not consider nor pursue any other scenario (bolt for dead/missing tree, etc.).

Please post your suggestions here or email them to myself (djones@squamishaccess.ca)

The anchors of daydreamer believer at Ronin's Corner should be replaced. They look like galvanized bolts and are extremely rusty.

yes thanks for the link to the mank patrol. We have certainly considered these suggestions in past re-bolting efforts (and will in future ones as well). But given that some info in that thread is not relevant (fixed lines, etc.) or has already been upgraded/fixed (Cruel Shoes, etc.), I thought it might be helpful to have a thread specifically on current suggestions for upcoming phase 3...and given the weather forecast it looks like we'll all have some downtime in the foreseeable future for thinking of some :(

The shackles connecting the chains to the hangers on exasperator have some good notches in 'em. Not sure if this is galvanic or mechanical (or both?). Not a crisis, but not hard to swap-out either.

The last pitch of The Daily Planet is still 1/4" bolts and fixed copperheads. That would sure be nice to have upgraded. As well, the rap anchors are either bolts with tat, or those shitty metolius rap hangers that twist your rope up something nasty. If you're up there already, some chains would be awesome! Thanks,

K
