Chief Falcon closures for 2011
Hi everyone,
The falcon closures for spring/summer 2011 can now be found here:
http://squamishaccess.ca/?p=724
Thanks to Jeremy Frimer for producing the nice visual.
Thanks as well to BC parks (in particular Dave Zevick) for working on IDing the nesting site with a wildlife biologist and engaging SAS, CASBC and others to protect the falcons while minimizing the impact on climbers. The level of cooperation and communication has been excellent.
And lastly thanks for patience from all of you climbers for this announcement.

Great news that Milk Road and Freeway are not included in the Falcon closure. It seems to me that this consultative process has led to the least restrictive closure in years.
Well done everyone.
Well done everyone.

That picture takes the guess work out of where to go. Well done.
Have to ask, is there only one nest located as depicted? I have seen what I believe to be 3 pairs floating around. This doesnt mean that they are all nesting on the cheif though.
Funny to think that when I was in school on the east coast (Newfoundland) I did an ecology presentation on these birds without ever seeing one, and the first one I saw was on the 25th flr of my buddies apartment in Toronto when it landed on the patio railing! Now I see them all spring/summer.
Usless info, they are considered the fastest bird in the world!
