You mean the Cliffhanger in Coquitlam? Where were the autobelays before? That wall in the back between the cave and the bouldering wall?Charlie wrote:Probably no different than what happened at Cliffhanger to make them move the auto belayers to be within view of the front desk. People are dumb and don't follow instructions.

It'd be nice to know the details of both accidents, whether it really was somebody forgetting to clip in (and not noticing as they climbed? is that possible?), or they clipped into the wrong thing, or ...? Its too bad gyms don't seem to contribute to http://alpineclub-edm.org/accidents/ (and that its down).
And how can the front desk staff verify a climber with their back to the desk has clipped in correctly? Mysterious.
On the topic of gyms...
does anybody know how the Vancouver cliffhangers managed to get built for the purpose of climbing, but with only 40 foot walls?

Longer is better (when it comes to gym walls). Sometimes you are stuck with what nature gave you, but if you build it special-purpose... oops.brockt wrote:...and people said it couldn't be done. It's a miracle of modern technology really. But seriously, what do you mean?ras wrote:does anybody know how the Vancouver cliffhangers managed to get built for the purpose of climbing, but with only 40 foot walls?
I got the rather strong impession (from the plans posted at the old cliffhangers, and from staff members) that they had the whole thing built from scratch, this is the first I heard the building was pre-existing. That would explain some things, like how there didn't seem to be any consideration of how to set up the bike racks, or a warmup area, or showers.MCpl wrote:The already exsisting buildings they inherited/decided to build in had limited ceilings.
