2014 Falcon Closure Starts Today

Post by JSmith » Sat Jun 21, 2014 4:00 pm

Hello.
Squamish Access Society has been notified of a falcon closure starting today.

“Falcon behaviour suggests a nest has been established in the area above Bellygood Ledge and south of the Black Dyke. The area highlighted in orange in the attached photo is closed to climbing and includes the following routes: Damn the Torpedoes, Shaved Bum, Universal Key, Upper Millenium Falcon (above Bellygood Ledge), Gold Medal Ribbon and Upper Stairway to Heaven (“Traverse of the Gods”). Please respect this closure. Upper Black Dyke and Bellygood Ledge remain open, but use caution if you encounter falcons and keep your distance. Falcon monitoring will continue and closure will be lifted by July 31, 2014, or earlier if monitoring indicates chicks have left the nest. Please report falcon sightings to BC Parks Joanna.hirner@gov.bc.ca or 604-924-2228. Thanks to those who have already contributed reports!”
