Poll: Epic Adventure or Outdoor Rec Capital of Canada?

Post by squamish climber » Tue May 13, 2014 9:19 am

A lot of discussion going on now about Squamish’s rebranding proposal. This spring the district of Squamish paid $65,0000 to community branding consultant, Roger Brooks to come up with a new tagline for Squamish.

The result as you’ve probably heard: Adventure Capital of Canada and “the world’s most epic adventures can be found right here.”

A bunch of people including Squamish Rock Guide author, Kevin McLane think that’s a mistake. As they point out, epic to outdoor athletes is when something goes wrong.

In a letter to the Chief last week McLane wrote. “People die in epics. The story of an epic can make for great reading or viewing, but no one gets out of bed in the morning to look for an epic.”

Mclane is not against new branding but suggests we stick with “Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada” over Adventure and epic. He says it’s served the city well since it first appeared in his coffee table book Sqaumish the Shining Valley twenty years ago.

So here’s what I want to know: What do people like better Adventure Capital and Epic Adventures or Outdoor Recreation Capital?
