Best guide and kid friendly crags

Post by Markckeller » Wed Jul 10, 2013 6:49 am

Hi All,

I'm gonna be in Squamish in a couple weeks. Can someone recommend the best guide book for getting an introduction to the area. I believe I have an old guide from 15 years ago or so to the chief, smoke bluffs etc. but I'd like to explore some of the new sport crags I've been hearing about.

Also, of the newish crags are there any that are on the kid(3yr old) friendly side. Specifically, relatively safe areas to spread out at the base of climbs.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
The best guide for squamish these days is "Squamish Select" by Mark Bourdon. As for the kid friendly areas Chekamus canyon is likely the most friendly. As it is the busy season the place is a zoo on the weekends, but mid-week you can spread out a little easier. As with all climbing there is never an area that is absolutely free of falling debris danger, but Chek is on the safer side of things. The approaches there are quite short from about 0-20 minutes.
Enjoy your stay,
Ty

The Sugar loaf and the Commonwealth at Murrin Park are other kid friendly venues. See this thread for more info on the Commonwealth. http://squamishclimbing.com/squamish_cl ... f=2&t=4070.

oh, wait a minute, the kids are not climbing.
