Routes on Anvil Island?

Post by jonny2vests » Wed Aug 22, 2012 7:58 am

I often gaze at its bare rock on the way up to Squamish thinking "It's visible from the Sea to Sky, therefore climbers will surely have been to check it out".

Then I snap back into reality, narrowly escaping another head on.

Any beta out there? Is there anything recorded?

Nothing recorded, but there's quite a bit of unrecorded seacliff climbing/DWS you can do from a landing on one of the beaches and/or a canoe you anchor to the base of the crag with cams in a crack.

In the latter case if roped climbing instead of DWS watch out for changes in the tide. A friend was left hanging after the tide went down while his boat was fixed to the cliff (aka how to make your canoe into a portaledge without really trying)

Thanks Dru, a bit of DWS is tempting.

There are two bolted routes on the the big wall on the north side of the island. They were put up awhile ago though and I believe the island is private property.
