Thieves taking away a good thing.

Post by MCpl » Mon Jul 05, 2004 10:54 pm

It has come to my attention that someone or some people, have taken the biners that were left fixed to the anchors of some routes at the Forgotten Wall. This, couple with the theft of a developer's rope on the Shoot To Kill Wall, has inspired me to post this.

For those that do not know, they (fixed biners) are left there so that it alleviates the hassle of cleaning routes, thus making it easier for users of said route. These biners are not free!! They are not "Wall Booty". They have been donated by either the route equiper or other climbers contributing to the sport.

I have had it with thieves in the climbing community. I put in a lot of time, money, and effort into developing new routes and areas so that others (friends and strangers) can come out and have fun and challenge themsleves. I will not stand by while idiots hinder my efforts and take away from the rest of us because of their inconsiderate behavior. I will break the hands of any thief I catch.

as has been said here before......some people really do suck.

We really should consider organized vigilante-ism.

I would hold any thief down while you broke their hands.

I caught someone taking a couple from the Crest, unfortunately it was a friend of a friend so I had to be more diplomatic. Needless to say, the point was made and the biners were put back. It's time to use some more of those plastic zap straps to fasten the biner to the chain.

good idea. I guess ignorance could explain some of the "thefts" and zappers would illustrate the point to those who are simply ill-informed.

You could also paint a sign on the rock at the top......like the route names at the bottom

And then on the bottom of the routes you could paint the grade   .....and the number of bolts.....

naw....let's just break some hands
