The Jim Baldwin Memorial Award - Call for Nominations

This is a new initiative of the Squamish Mountain Festival to inspire climbers to think about the past and come to Squamish to push the grades in the future.


The Jim Baldwin Memorial Award (sponsored by Mountain Equipment Co-op) for excellence in Climbing

Concept:
o The prize is awarded to the climber or team of climbers who display boldness, innovation or significance in the climbing of a new route/grade/style in the Squamish area.
o The motivation is to pay tribute to the pioneers of Squamish climbing and to draw attention to the continuing breakthroughs in climbing taking place in the region.

Categories:
o Celebrating the Present day
- Awarded for a climb that has taken place within the past 2 calendar years in
the Squamish area (summer 2006 is allowed)
o Celebrating the Past
- Awarded for a climb or contribution to climbing completed prior to the past 2 calendar years.

Nomination:
o Anyone can nominate a climber or team of climbers by emailing or writing to the Squamish Mountain Festival (or by posting the facts here)
o The climb or contribution to climbing must be of significance to and in the region of Squamish.
o Climbers can be from any area or country.

Voting:
o A designated board will vote from the list of nominations and choose the winners.
o The winners will be announced annually at the Squamish Mountain Festival.
o Winners will be notified prior to the festival and every effort will be made to have them at the event.

Award:
o The Present Day award winner will receive a cash prize of $500, a commemorative plaque and his/her/their name/names engraved on the Jim Baldwin Memorial Award.
o The Past Award winner will receive a commemorative plaque and his/her/their name/names engraved on the Jim Baldwin Memorial Award.
