Ok but in the forums for crag topos etc, it says right at the start:
Everyone can edit and update the crag information, but PLEASE READ THE RULES.
But how can you edit the information without editing it?

I've lurked here for a while and it seems like a small well behaved community (unlike Gripped
). The conveniences of editing, to me, outweighs the need to police content. It can always be reverted if it becomes a problem.

I agree with Meingh. It could be very confusing to readers of a particular post if the content of earlier submissions could be changed by the author. If the author wants to correct content or change his/her opinion they can easily add a new reply along the lines of "what I meant to say was....". Certainly it must be frustrating to submit a post or reply with embedded pictures or links that dont work. However this does not seem to happen very often and I am not sure that it necessitates a change in administrator policy. I agree with Meingh that encouraging authors to think carefully about what they want to say, and reviewing the post before hitting "submit", is a good idea. Just my two cents....

as for confusing the other readers who join the conversation a bit later... it's not like most people ever really change their whole post, it's only ever really a few small details, which when left out, can confuse people. then you go to correct it in your 'reply' cause you can't edit, and the readers get even more confused cause they have to scroll up and down trying to figure what the hell is going on...
your non editing rule sucks

I say enable the editing and bring on the slander and confusion. This site could use some livening up. This site is as stale as the whole climbing scene in Squamish. In that respect I guess it's a good reflection.
Oooops didn't mean to actually type that. Oh damn now I can't edit it. Everyone is going to know the real me. Aaaaaaaah!
