A$$%$#^@ of Squamish

Post by tattooed_climber » Sun Feb 19, 2006 9:31 pm

There's a war on....

Between Climbers

and Crack Addicts....

Some time between 12am and 7 am on Sunday, Feb 19th 2006, Insergents of the Cracker Brigade made an attack on the Truck (lifted 1988 Toyota 4 runner) of Philip Hofmann, aka the dude, aka tattooed_climber...The crackerjacks where foolish in their mission....they nisglected the $1000+ worth of biathalon ski polls and summer training skates, his brand new MEC tarn 2 tent, the stack of guide books, his $200 synth sleeping bag, his CDs and CD player...

no...this motive was personal....they're information is strong...thier intellegents (what little they have) found that Philip forgot a small bagpack in his truck in plain view, he was in a rush to get his a$% back into the Squamish Hostel to watch the rest of the CANADA vs SWITZERLAND Hockey game.

the Crackhead Regiment made off with ONE Arc'teryx Back pack, the RT 25, a MEC synthetic jacket, brand new Black Diamond Campus Pants, a pair of cotton socks, $60+ in bills and change he had stashed around his truck, some gear t -shirts, a $200 patagonia fleece, and a nice pair of dress pants and dress shirt he was to wear to his sisters Birthday dinner (he showed up with bloody knuckles from crack climbing, trashy shoes, beatin up alpine pants and a Petzl t-shirt that smells like a a long haired climber bum has just worn it for 36 hours straight)

The truck was left is a F%$#$&^ mess with the passenger door left open....a small childrens backpack was left in the truck, emply, except for 2 peices of a rubic cube inside it.

He is most choked up over the lost of his back pack, it had $30 worth of seam grip over it (inside and out) making it a bombproof haul bag, sewn in 1inch webbing mod-ed (nicely done) into a big wall style rack for alpine climbing, reenforced shoulder straps (damn near bomber), a canadian flag sewn on the kangaroo pocket, extra haul pionts, added on gear slings, and other personal modifications....the Backpack has also been discontinued by arc-teryx...4+ years of cragging, peak bagging, solo scrambles, solo-aid and many many many other roadtrips and adventures this pack has seen..... now his smallest back pack is a 55L OLD(10yr +) BD Mix Master pack containing 9,000 of gear which was located INSIDE the Hostel, Next to him while he slept

if you see a crack addict, beat them....if you see a crack addict wearing BD pants or MEC jackets, BEAT THEM....if you see one sporting a highly customized alpine pack..do not beat them, follow them home and call philip hofmann @ 604-771-5237 so Philip may drive to squamish and F%$#$&^ murder the bastard

hell, my rack is one thing, but those jackets and my RT pack were like old friends......all the peaks we did, all the routes, the epics....the miserable bivies

Hell, i just realized today that my Lycra was in there....MY F%$#$&^ FUNKY LYRCA...the they would have putten my funky leg warmers to shame....why the hell would a cracker want lyrca? with crazy lightning and sh*t all over it???why...

You know what is crazy, if you put like a sign on your car like... I'm watching you and I dare you! They may just leave it alone. Trust me people doing meth and crack can get so out of it. You become so paranoid about people watching you. That said some guys just get so desperate they will do anything... be scared!

that'll just encourage people...or lead them on that there's something worth value in the truck

this is the second time my truck has been jacked (first time someone stole 2 to 3,000 in tools from my other job before this one (they were insured though)......whatever, my insurrence is up in 2 months and i'm not resigning with ICBC for a while (i don't want a vehicle while i go to school for the first term)...save some cash

Hell, they broke into my car from the lock and then didn't take anything, cause it was empty! All I had in there was a guide book and sweatshirt. Yet the F$%#^%$ still broke into it even tho I left the glove box open and everything on the seat. Serious problem up there cause I meet so many people who have had issues with it.

So what are most these guys doing... Meth or Crack? I'd think meth but maybe not.

Do you know the number of break ins a year up there? How many are believed to be from the druggies?

Tommy-Hey, hey, hey man. Can I get a 20 sack?
Crackdealer-You a cop white boy? Show me some id to prove it! You have to tell me if you're a cop!
Tommy-No, no cop, just wanna score me some rock. (flashes some id to prove it)
Crackdealer-Oh, well here man, don't see many white boys in this area of town, you should be careful!

Methhead-Hey man, did you see that cop car drive by? Oh god he slowed down and I think he saw me.
Normal-I didn't see any cop car drive by!

I know that this is a very aggravating topic for some (especially the victims) but please let's refrain from using profanity on this board.

That totally sucks! I've had an RT25 for 'bout 3 years now, and had some great times with it.

One thing I've always found weird about it, though, are the two loops at the bottom of the bag, they aren't big enough to hold a rope, probably could hold a thermarest (but I don't take one of those when I climb). Not sure what the idea behind them was.

Anyhow, I'm curious about your mods, particularly the sewn-on webbing and gear slings. Do you have any close-up pictures of what you did? I'd like to see, maybe get some ideas for mine.

Your bag sounds distinctive, I'll keep my eye out for it, fwiw.

no, i have no pics of the pack with mods, just prior to most of them(which seriously make me pissed off by looking at them (those and picks of my MIA jackets)

ya...i had no idea what those two bottom loops where for(i used them for a bambo yoga mat, which i used as a rope tarp)...there was a buckle in between those two loops...i put a 12 inch peice of 1inch accessory webbing there to help hold down the picks of my ice tools...

as for the gear loops, i MAY put them on my brand new OnSight ZIPPY Alpine daypack....if i do, i'll post pics...the mod-ed gear loops were very similar to the [my] A5 bigwall double rack....i may use 3/4inch Climb-spec webbing on the next one (it was 1inch mil-spec on the arc'teryx one)

my new onsight pack is SUPER comfy...way more than the arc'teryc RT25...i HIGHLY recommend it

Totally can understand your pain about the pack bro. I've got a Bora 30, from when arcteryx first started out, tacky green, etc, its got to be close to 10 years + or -. Its been everywhere with me, from hikes, to climbs, to australia and thailand and all over N. America. My g/f understands that i would choose the pack over her. I can't get over how much s*** goes on in squamish as far as crime for how money cops i see driving the 99 and cleveland ave. I'll keep my eye out when i'm up in Squish over the next couple of weeks for ya.
