Plan a dream trip: California and South

Post by Soontobe » Thu Jan 04, 2007 1:42 pm

On a climbing trip starting in California and then heading South what would you make sure to see/climb?

Yosemite and J-tree are the first stops and then I would head to El Escalon and Aculca in Mexico.

I have heard of some beautiful bouldering in Costa Rica but I forget the place or name.

My dream trip would definetly have some DWS involved. Oh and lots of surfing!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Staring at your plans regarding california trip, you must have missed conejo valley. :D . No worry, you can revisit the beauty of it in many ways by glancing at Giessinger winery, Thousand oaks, westwild place, Boney mountain overlook and many more mesmerising areas.

You can always try Boney Peak which is part of the sandstone Boney Mountain overlook formation, in Circle X Ranch Park of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in Southern California. It is one of the highest points in the Santa Monica Mountains in California.

California was my first climbing trip to the Americas back in 2011, I did enjoy myself quite much at Boney Peak, it's definitely worth your time and attention!

Awesome directions! I had been up there only once, and it was going the way you described. I had someone else leading the way though, so I didn't remember the exact path to take up there. What a cool place.

One can fly between places however I don't know that would be my fantasy excursion. I would MOSTLY HIGHLY prescribe that you think about southern Utah as a feature of your excursion, Thousand oaks, westwild place, Boney mountain ignore and a lot additionally hypnotizing regions.

California is a hiker's paradise, with an incredible diversity of landscapes. The nature sites are so sublime that simple descriptions only hint at their grandeur: the magnificent glacier-carved valley of Yosemite, a breathtaking mountainous coastline in Big Sur, the serenely barren Mojave Desert, the majestic snow-capped Mount Shasta, and a rugged, untamed wilderness in Solstice Canyon.

This famous trail rewards hikers with views of Yosemite's most spectacular waterfalls as well as sweeping panoramas of the valley floor. The trail includes two parts: The two-mile section to Columbia Rock, a moderate hike that ascends 1,000 feet through a switchback trail. Be sure to stay on the path, since wandering off can lead to dangerous sheer drop-offs near the trail. Most hikers will be satisfied with completing the Columbia Rock portion that takes two to three hours round-trip. From here, hikers are awed by the bird's-eye view of Yosemite Valley's meadows, with the Merced River winding its way down the center, enclosed by Half Dome and Sentinel Rock.

Definitely visit some of the mountain spots! I've climbed a few places in Costa Rica and it's for sure a top 5 for me. Check out https://www.mountainproject.com/area/10 ... costa-rica for a number of good spots to try. I haven't been in a few years but there's no doubt that is normally my first activity to tackle.. then of course do a bit of surfing down in Oxnard with my younger brother!! Surf and turf baby!!!

California is one of my favorite places to visit. I really want to hike on their beautiful mountains someday.

Definitely try to hit up El Capitan while you are in Yosemite. I climbed that with a friend a few years back and it was very much worth it. It took us a few days but the climb and views were amazing.
