Wrinkle Rock. Gondola crags

Finished a new route on Wrinkle Rock.
If you you've already been up to the top of the Gondola you'll appreciate the amount of potential this area has in store. I'm happy to have gotten in on the ground floor to areas development, and I couldn’t be happier to have gotten on this line.
Isla In The Sky 5.10b mixed (named after my daughter Isla. Pronounced *eye-la)
P1. A boulder start gains bomber hand jams to the steep off width crack. Make your way up the off width, to a good rest. Continue up the flaring crack protected by two bolts to the belay anchor. 5.10b
P2. Follow the bolts up the arête gaining the gear protected crack, finish up the bolted face to the belay 5.9. Walk off or rappel off the anchors to climbers left.

Very cool Aaron thanks for posting. Nice way to include your daughter in your adventure. How long before you will be roping up with her on this?

This crag looks super, with a bit of slab and a bit of crack. How many more routes are on this rock?

The Sea to Sky Gondola has posted a nice page on their site describing the rock climbing areas. Wrinkle Rock is a 15 minute walk down from the top of the gondola and is adjacent to the lift line.

Another great crag is described:

Klettergarten (Ultraviolet Cliff) will be one of the easier accessed cliffs in Squamish as it is located only 200 metres above the gondola’s top station. This area was first developed in the 1980’s, but for the past two decades it has been relatively inaccessible. We were able to identify four of the original routes that were built in the 80’s, and have developed an additional four routes to this cliff. So as it stands, there are eight fully-cleaned routes with bolted anchors, and there are future plans to develop more routes here. The cliff faces SW and SE, so it receives a lot of sun. This will help the routes stay clean over the years, and will also make it a very viable crag in the “shoulder seasons” of fall and spring, because the routes will dry quickly. All of the routes are relatively short, ranging from 12 - 16 metres, however all but one are at least dead vertical, and most of them are gently overhanging. Overhanging cracks are not especially common in Squamish, especially in moderate grades.

Was sent some new routes by Harry Young below Wrinkle Rock

The Sub-Gondolarium

A superb atmospheric little crag midst old growth forest, approximately 100 mentres left

and downhill from the Gondolarium (aka Wrinkle Rock).

Approach by walking 20 min. downhill beneath the cableways from the top station of the

Gondola.

1. Wrinkles Crinkle 5.10+, 30 m.

In a right facing corner, pass a bolt and follow the crack passing an off-width

section. Cams to 5”, 4.5”, 3”, 2” and a few smaller sizes.

2. Gonedelerius 5.11, 30 m.

Hard start past 2 bolts to a right facing corner. Gear to 2”. Left then right to finish.

3. Dike on Earth 5.11, 30 m.

Follows a dike feature to an exciting exit. Mantle start past bolts and gear (mid to

small size).
