Top 10 Hard Cracks in Squamish

Post by TomPR » Tue Apr 02, 2013 2:04 pm

I'm heading over to Squamish later in the year and was wondering if anyone could help me with a few recommendations for some hard cracks in Squamish/Squamish area?

I've got Cobra, Adder Crack and 69 in there.... but anything else highly recommended for totally wrecking your body and hands?! :D

Any size is lovely, so happy for all suggestions. Cheers, Tom

Zap Crack looks like its worth the walk.

Flight of the Challenger has good reviews.

The left side of the Split Pillar is an outstanding crack.

I hear Warriors of the Wastelands has a couple good hard cracks.

While your up at the Cobra you might as well fire of Scimitar.

The 3rd pitch of Genus Loki has a thin crack in an amazing position accessed by some face climbing off the traverse into grandwall, and is bound to give ya a run for your money trying to figure out gear on the sharp end.
Imaging how much funner this could be with booze and explosives

Have a look through the "Top 100" list at the beginning of the newest Squamish Select giudebook. That'll give you a decent idea of where to start. If you're looking for multipitch options, the Western Dihedrals, and North Walls of the Chief have the highest concentrations of routes 5.12 and up.

Thanks for the replies guys. I take it from your recommendations that there aren't tons of >5.13 cracks there then? Just Cobra, Adder and 69?

Isn't there some desperate Peter Croft thing that's a roof and perhaps 13a? Something to do with "horses"???

There is a ton of hard cracks....start with these!!!
The North Star, Cobra, Adder, 69, Gunslinger, Zombie Roof, Teddy Bears Picnic, My little pony, Gravity Bong, Sugar Daddy (Not a crack but will make you sweat!), The Shadow, Lake of Fire etc....if you finish all these you should get free shoes!

Those would be Zombie Roof (Croft, 13a) and My Little Pony (not Croft, 12d).Both roof cracks and both in the aforementioned top 100 list.

Northstar, Spacebox, Stone Free, Parallax View, Cannabis Wall, Great White North, Magical Dog, that should keep you busy for a little while.

Isn't Great White North a slab/face route?

Hey Tom... if you're looking for a super classic line, check out the Shadow. An absolute MUST do in the 13a range! http://vimeo.com/19544985

There are some cracks on it.... Come on, this forum would be nothing without the ability to sandbag visiting hardmen on our heinous slab. :)

Is Pete coming too Tom? Are you touring the NW? You should check out Index while you're in the area.

I'm starting a petition to bring Index up to Squamish. I don't think it has been properly cared for and deserves a better home. That place is unbelievable.

I'd be happy to sign that petition.
