British climber Hazel Findlay puts up new 5.13R crack climb

Post by squamish climber » Fri Oct 12, 2012 9:31 am

Hazel Findlay made another visit to Squamish last month (Sept) and put up a couple of nice routes at a new crag between the Chief and Slhanay called the Long House. She calls the 5.13 R Adder Crack and says it's harder than 69 (5.13b)

Her description of the crag sounds very enticing:
The other cool thing about the Long House is that the cracks aren’t like other cracks in Squamish; they are really steep and often wide, climbing more like the cracks of Yosemite than the Chief.
Here's a shot of crag linked from her blog.

Thanks for the posting and link, Dave.

Where (exactly) is the Long House?

the Long House is about 10-15minutes uphill from the Catalan Wall.

Thanks, Slinky: but where is the Catalan Wall? Can you give locations for both walls relative to Slhanay?

About 15 years or so ago Will Dorling and friends had an area called the Forgotten Realm that was behind (east of) the col between Slhanay and the Chief.

Luc Mailloux had a whole crag of offwidths that was back in the same area c. 2000. You got to it off the Habrich road (below the road, left of Scottish Tale). You can see this latter crag from the top of Sunblessed looking across the valley.

I would guess Longhouse is in the same area.
