Real Rock Mentors
Real Rock Mentors
Hi Everyone,
I have started a grassroot project called Real Rock Mentors:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Real-Roc ... 7933293136
The goal is to help climbers leap through the abyss between indoor and outdoor climbing.
This is inspired by Steve House's Alpine Mentors Program (http://www.alpinementors.org).

The other day I was thinking... Many indoor climbers will never be able to climb in Squamish without a friend or someone who's willing to invest precious time/effort to take them out. I and many others have been mentoring informally. It'd be a great idea to have a central hub to pool together ideas, motivate each other, build up a supportive climbing community. Not to mention everyone has had a climbing teach at some points in their climbing career and it's like returning the good love and kindness.
In this project, Mentors will commit to take out 1 climber/season to climb outdoor for 1 day!
Mentors have complete freedom to choose their mentoring goals and mentees as long as it's safe, significant and meaningful. Short term, long term. You pick!
Example: - You are having an easy group cragging day, invite 1 friend.
Who are the Mentors:
Currently, I pick only VRCG Organizers as "official" mentors. But really, I don't want any formality as limitations and want to open up this whole thing to ALL climbers. So take up the challenge, LIKE and share the page, mentor some climbers independently, share your mentoring goals:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... PZ3c#gid=0
And the obvious... : 0
This is an open program. No one supervises it. Everyone climbs at their own will and risk. Climbing is dangerous and you can die.
