Ashlu road access.... any word?

Post by effie » Sat Jul 10, 2010 8:48 am

I want to climb mt ashlu in the next couple weeks, but i'm wondering if anyone knows what the deal is with the road in.....
sounds like a HC 4x4 might make it pretty far, but I haven't been able to find out how far, say, a 2 wheel drive truck could make it.

would it be reasonable to bike the rest of the way in?

would it be reasonable to attempt the approach and climb in a day, in a big push, or better to bike/hike in, bivy, then climb?

love to hear if anyone's been up there lately, or has any info.... thanks!

we drove up tp the trailhead (last summer, i think?) in a stock jeep cherokee with no issues except the carwash effect of the alders.

You can get fairly close before the washout but the alders will give character to the paint job!
When in doubt....run it out!!!!

I was up that way on a dirt bike and there is a part of the road with a lot of fallen logs partially blocking the road from a washout and I would think only a small jeep would get past. If I remember correctly it was at Pykett creek. Is this new this year?
