New 10 b/c route at bae of Pet Wall, Murrin Park

Post by smallman » Sun Jul 12, 2009 7:54 pm

Hey people:
There is now a second moderate (10 b/c?) route to warm-up on at Pet wall Murrin Park. A Cougar One Bite Brownie (30m) is approximately 30 m west (left) of Big Guns and is just left of Heavy Petting Action (10-). It is mixed ( 9 bolts and pro to 2 inchs) with the cruxes bolt protected. It shares anchors with Heavy Petting Action. ANyways get on it as it is pretty fun. I thought it was 10 b ish. The name is about the propensity of mini dogs to become Squamish cougar snacks.

Have more fun

Got on this route last night - it is excellent. The upper part in particular features some very nice clean stone. It felt 10a/b ish to me and will certainly be a popular addition once the word gets out a little more.

Ya I did both routes, didnt really find a place for a cam or where you needed it. Maybe its better to just say one cam possible, that way people who have no gear will still climb it.

I think the right most route was better, missed that last bolt though.

Thanks

Glad you both enjoyed the routes. It makes the work worth it. For the right route (heavy petting action) , I originally put the anchor up and to the right which made the last bolt more necessary to avoid a huge run-out. However that anchor placement was not ideal in terms of rope drag, so I moved the anchor when I put in the second route. I may go remove or move the last bolt still. Thanks for the input and constructive criticism. I would say the left route (Cougar One Bite Brownie) is sport + if you are an high 10 - 11 climber. If I was less experienced I would definitely want pro at the top. I used a blue metlious cam midway and you could use a green to gold cam on the top bit.
