John Bachar died today in Mammoth, California, apparently after a fall while solo climbing. There is much more about this on the SuperTopo website, for example at:

John was a great climber and a great man.

John organized "Dyno for Dollars" at the Trade Show in SLC twice a year for as long as i can remember! He was such riot and a great guy and we always had so much fun! He was always good for a laugh and willing to chat about anything, super approachable and never had an ego even though he was a Legend! For me, he was one of the greats; one first climbers i read about and looked up to as a kid; for me he was right up there in the Legendary status of greats like Wolfgang Gullich. We all were so happy that he was ok a few years ago when he was involved in a major car accident...

R.I.P. John! I'll miss you my friend!
