Tony Cousins - Memorial Services - August 11th

Post by Anders Ourom » Fri Aug 08, 2008 5:41 pm

As many in the climbing community have heard, Tony Cousins died on July 28th, 2008 while climbing at Squamish. He was 70, and was rope-soloing "Sally Five Fingers" at the Little Smoke Bluffs.

There will be a memorial service for Tony this coming Monday, August 11th, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Knox United Church in Vancouver. (5600 Balaclava Street, at 41st).

Tony was one of the pioneers of climbing at Squamish. He and Jim Baldwin did the first ascent of Slab Alley in 1961, the first route on the Apron. He also did some routes that are now well-known as free climbs, including Brunser Overhang, Perspective, Caboose, and routes on the Papoose.

There was a short obituary in the Vancouver Sun on August 7th, at http://www.legacy.com/can-vancouver/Obi ... =115068276

There is a longer article and stories about Tony in this week's Squamish Chief, at http://www.squamishchief.com/madison/WQ ... enDocument
