Post by squamish climber » Mon May 28, 2012 8:51 am

Some new climbs by Harry Young that deserve to be publicized and climbed. This crag is in the saddle between Slhanay and the north Chief. Going from the Disaster Response Topo, Poxy wall is on the same trail and is the a little ways before Disaster Response.

Here is the description sent to Squamishclimbing.com

Excellent single pitch routes at new crag "The Pox" (aka Poxy crag) by Harry Young.

Approach: Park as for the squaw, just after the first rock step at about 100m take new trail on your right. 20 minutes to base of routes. Central saddle between squaw and north Chief.

Routes from left to right

1) Heel Hook Arete 5.10 c left facing corner to arete. 30m Harry young, Glenn Woloski

2) Staple 5. 11a Crack / face 30m Harry young , Glenn Woloski

3) Pulls Easy 5.10c Crack/ face 30m Harry Young ,Amanda Green

4) Duct tape Dan 5.10a crack face 30m Harry Young , Derek

-That first climb - Heel Hook Arete sounds very cool.
If anybody goes up there make sure to take some photos and post them here.
cheers

Staple and Pulls Easy are both fantastic full value crack climbs. We walked over to Disaster Response as well but didn't climb anything over there, it looked very good as well. A very impressive job on the access trail up to Pox wall, that must have taken some time.

Climbed a couple of these routes yesterday on the way down from Disaster Response.

Staple: This is certainly the line of the crag and has to be one of the better pitches of its grade in Squamish. It reminds me of Perspective due to its length, quality and sustained nature but seems a grade easier.

Pulls Easy: Another full value crack climb, with an airy traverse midway up to gain the upper cracks. the grade seemed pretty accurate at 10c.

We ran out of time but I will definitely be back to have a go at the other climbs....and to repeat these two.

If you are a 5.10 climber get up there and check these out - you will not be disappointed.

I did Heel Hook Arete last year, which is absolutely fantastic. The rock was a little bit crumbly still, but with more traffic this could definitely be a classic. I can't think of any other overhanging crack system/arete at this grade.
