New Murrin Crag: Fjordguard

Post by mcsorley » Thu Jun 16, 2016 1:52 pm

Just finished off a new cliff and added a couple pitches to an old one. Fjordguard is located a couple hundred meters North and opposite Nightmare Rock. It has a distinct "Sentry Box" feature easily see from HWY 99. The cliff is very featured, catches afternoon sun and dries quickly. The Roof Charmer is super fun, #justtheguys and Mary Mary (11b) have thin crimp cruxes and Lemmy is tech/physical. Beef Eater is a bit spicy and White Raven is burly.

Also the cliff that hosts Nintendo 64 Ice climb also has an old John Howe Route called Strenotechnic (10c) which we recleaned and clocks in at modern 11a all on gear (micros to 4") - a varied classic! Two new sport climbs were added Atari 11a and Highway 99 12b(or harder) which sports a fixed draw. There is some unique dyke rock at this cliff.

Along with The Golden Nugget this zone provides a trio of worthy crags

One final note: PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE "CLIP AND DROP" CARABINERS ON THE ANCHORS, THEY ARE THERE FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, REPLACE THEM IF THEY SEEM WORN.
