Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
Looking for climbing areas in the Sea to Sky that need some work, be it approach trails, belay areas and the like. We've done a fair bit of work over the last few years and are running out of new prospects.

Trail to above and Beyond? With all the new climbs and crags back there...like twilight zone and sunrising.

Trail below Crystal Wall.
Lots of work done between Lumberland and Crag X. Trail leading to Crystal Wall from Lumberland was excavated with a machine, had a small bridge built over a seasonal stream, even had these "railing like things" installed, but the jobs wasn't finished. For some bizarre reason they created this trail and at the most precarious, exposed section the work stopped. You can't create a trail that's accessible to the general public, one that you can literally take a baby carriage down only to have it bottle neck down tightrope narrow rocky scramble. I've already encountered a couple of unsuspecting dog walkers on this trail and warned them away. It would be great to get this section fixed before some Sunday walker gets hurt.

It'd be nice for the trail down to Gotham City to get fixed up again through the canyon. Lots of neat climbs and a ton of untapped potential in there.
Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
It's a fairly minor crag in the Bluffs, but Cheap Mango needs some tree removal and a light scrub. It would make a nice addition to your time at Call it a Day if it were tidier and more obvious. I might do it myself with all my spare time.
Dru, where's Gotham City? Cheak Canyon?

Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
-The climbers right trail from the top of the Slhanay ("squaw") to the chimney fixed line/downclimb could use some work
-Despite a crew from last year during the trail day climbing festival, more work is needed on the Area 44 access to the base of the climbs.

Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
Personally I think that decent trail is fine, it's not like it's a beginner area or anything, and the fixed like was replaced last June by yours trulyal pine wrote:-The climbers right trail from the top of the Slhanay ("squaw") to the chimney fixed line/downclimb could use some work
Imaging how much funner this could be with booze and explosives
Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
A ladder or stairs to laughing crack would be nice instead of having to pull on the chain there. And the descent trail from Skywalker and the top of the Papoose could use steps in a couple places.
Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
And the bolts for the fixed line up to Cat Crack ledge in the Bluffs should be moved to the other side of gully to prevent the Fixed lines from being abraded. That line is looking pretty sketchy.
Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
Thanx for the suggestions everyone. Please keep this concept in mind as you visit your favourite crags. Ie, whether the trail needs to be replaced in spots, stairs (such as been suggested), belay areas etc. Finally, I realize this will be met with shrugs but it would be great if some could go through our Adopt A Crag process http://www.access-society.ca/adoptacrags and try to get involved in initiating a trail day. It's not difficult and we'll help along the way.....

Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions
How about teaming up with the trails society and others, and building a good trail from the Slhanay parking area to the Chief/Slhanay saddle, and then linking up with the existing trails? More or less upgrading the old mountaineers' route. It'd have to be to a good standard, and with BC Parks consent, but might open access to some cliffs there, and would benefit all park users. A good loop trail, perhaps with expanded parking at the Slhanay end, woudl be of real value.
