Cougar Crag?

Post by Spaztic » Tue Jul 19, 2011 8:57 am

Anybody been up there yet this year? What sort of shape is it in? How high is the water level?

Is there an topo available yet, or any updates on the routes?

Thanks!

Try this link for the photo of Knuckle Head. The 11b/c actually pulls the roof on the left side!

Brilliant! Thanks.

Given the current weather and forecast, and the two weeks that have passed, what do you figure are the chances Cougar will be climable this weekend?

7 minute casual approach to Tombstone, Knucklehead is 200 meters further but across the creek. If the creek is high you can reach Knucklehead from the top, 14 minute approach.

I will post the exact directions for Tombstone and Knucklehead next week after we finish a few projects and clean up the fixed ropes.

Hey, I recognize that. Halfway to the upper falls on the right side, right?
There used to be a secret abandoned squatter cabin in the woods a ways back from the top of the crag.

I wandered in there this afternoon to have a look. Cool looking cliff Rolf, still seeping in a few spots and lowering off the routes would result in the climber paddling lol. Once the water drops off i'll be back. Thanks for all the hard work!

Hey, is the wet weather over? I climbed at Cougar last year at about this time, and had a blast and want to go back, but don't want to get babysitting, and then discover I'm wading at the belay...

Has the river receeded a bit, yet?

I was up there hiking about 9 days ago and the water was higher than the last time (i'm thinking due to snow melt)

I'm heading there tonight, i'll post an update later. The water level seemed normal last weekend when I was in the area.

Slayer and I with a friend stopped by after climbing in Squamish to escape the heat. We got on several of the routes and had a blast. One of us decided to try wading in the stream with shoes and socks on :)
Really good quality climbing on the 11 and the 12, the 10d is a little funky. Nice find guys!

5.12 b sustained Jealous Husband
