28th March - 2nd April.. Help and advice for lone traveller!

Post by EmJay » Thu Feb 25, 2010 2:56 am

Hi all,

I'll be travelling to Vancover and was hoping to get a little bouldering or single pitch climbing in.. i will bring basic kit with me. But have no idea where to go / stay and if theres a nice campsite somewhere where its easy to meet other travelling peeps. I've never been to the area so any advice would be great - bus routes, hostels, campsites... currently sitting in my office in the UK and can't wait to get out there!!

Cheers muchly, Em

Hi Em,
Welcome to Squamish and Squamishclimbing.com. You are probably aware that your trip dates have you here in the off-season. That means the weather is more unpredicatable and can be wet in the Spring. That said, there are people that climb all year and breaks of sunny weather do happen. Also note that the alpine backcountry has great skiing at this time.

Here is the link for Stawamus Chief Provincial Park. The campsite does not officially open until May 1, but the site says you can walk in from the gate in the off-season. You will probably be the only one camping there at that time. So you may want to stay in town. Go to the Squamish info site for accomodation and town info.

Below are some links in the forum where climbers have sought and received info:

Hoefuly others will help you out as well and post info.

Thats great, thank you for the info... to be fair i'm going pretty blind... i'm doing some work in Seattle for a couple of weeks before hand and trying to double up the mission and have always wanted to come over to BC.

I thinks its a better idea to stay in the hostels as you say, in the town... more atmosphere - although i camp over here on my own... its not as fun in a new country out of season, on your own!!

I'll have alook at those links, thanks once again! :)
