Climbing Videos

Post by Pete L. » Tue Apr 04, 2006 3:52 pm

Just watched the latest "Dosage" video. (number three)
Pretty good for the most part but I'm curious to know if I'm the only one who thought the 15 minutes with Ron K. in the Valley was some of the lamest shite ever filmed.
Some of the footage from the Valley was nice but that's it.
The music was horrific!
The dialogue was worse than the music!
I could go on but then things would just get nasty.

I thought "Return to Sender" was way better from start to finnish. Reardon and all.

Any tips for good videos out there?

i'm sure glad some other people think that that ron kauk part of that video was totally lame. i watched it once! couldn't take it again. maybe i should try it on mute?

i would agree with you on the fact that return to sender is better. mostly for sheer variation of climbing though.

as for other good videos.. i really like dosage vol. 1. it's got some wicked climbing (spectre, mandala in bishop and realization) all that stuff i can watch over and over. I really want to check out "hard grit" though. i hear it's rad. Hopefully i'll be able to get motivated again and make a video for this summer. maybe my stupid SONY camcorder wont break down again...

I can't believe you guys. You actually stayed awake throughout that segment? I skipped to the next chapter when I started to fall asleep.

I'm guessing you guys aren't going to get the entire movie that that segment is an excerpt of then.

Can you imagine a full hour of that!

I liked Dosage 1 and Hard Grit as well.

I haven't seen Dosage 3 but I did see the film 'Return to Balance' (the full film to which that segment is from) last time I was in Yosemite.

Talking with Ron Kauk about the film he made it clear to me that it wasn't another one of the ego/ techno pumping bouldering pornography flicks. It was art. It had a point - and a conscience. Also Sterling Johnson's high deffinition filming was jaw dropping to a point that I'd say even people who have never been to the Valley would be in total appreciation at the grand scope of the place.

I guess the SquamishClimbing.com community just isn't in touch with - as Ron puts it - 'the Nature'...

I'd say skip Dosage - that crap is all the same - and see both Return to Balance and Ascending Rythm, its predessesor.

So jason... your telling me that I watch too much porn?

I do not feel that i have lost touch with nature, I just like watching people climbing at their limit. Actually! i didn't mind the climbing in "return to balance" nor the music. i may go as far as to call it art...but the dialog was cheeze. That's what killed me about the whole thing.
maybe i'll get criticism for taking the middle road, but this is what i have to add.

I'm glad you had a holistic valley experience, and i'm sure Ron is a great guy. However, he's just not the best guy for helping others get in touch with nature, reguardless of how in touch he is.

Oh yah. go watch dosage 3. Or "best of the west" for some real hard bouldering. it's a good one!

"Art" my a$%!
"Cheese" more like it.
I haven't seen it in a while but the old black and white "El Cap" video has a far greater artistic appeal to me.
Anyone know if the Co-op sells it?

Don't go knocking Ron just because he had too many tokes from the ol' peace pipe.

"the brown needles on the tops of the trees makes me concerend"

Cheezy? maybe...

... pertinent? prehaps...
