Forgotten Wall grades

Post by MCpl » Wed Apr 21, 2004 12:01 pm

Do y'all think that the Forgotten Wall grades are sandbagged? Everytime I get on "Filth Infatuated" I get pumped out of mind. Yet I was in Skaha on an 11c and onsighted it.

Are any of the other routes (ones that you've been on) sandbagged or soft for what they are given?

My first time on filth I thought it was 11b. Second time it seemed a fair bit harder.

As for your question;

Sandbagged;

Incredible Journey
Rock Lobster
The Voodoo That You Do
Giddy Up

Soft;

MEC
Got Pull
The Reach Around
Currently Coagulating

Okay, these are just for me. Others may find just the opposite. I though the consensus was that Skaha was generally soft anyway? :?

I disagree with everything said here...

Filth is not sandbagged (or runout) you just have to rest right before the crux.

MEC was always "soft" this was more of deterrent. The thought being if you can't onsight 12 a may not wish to take the chance. And I have heard that there are rests around the corner which make it 11c.

Rug munchers 11b-it can be done in runners.

Trunk monkey is hard for 11c.

Incredible journey is 12a

Mr. Negative is pretty hard for 12c.

Rock Lobster seemed pretty hard for the grade, although I was told that there's a key kneebar at the crux.

Timber Queen is probably more like 12b.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

So saying Rug Munchers is 5.11d would be off then. It ought to be easier? Is it easier than Cromatic Suspension? Or easier than the Mutation?

Is Voodoo closer to a 10c then?

Rug munchers is easier than both the climbs MCpl listed...
Crawling right is hard
So is Mr negative.
Timber queen seems on the 12c- side

I think Rug Munchers is stiff for 11c but I wouldn't upgrade it. There may be jugs the whole way up but it's way too pumpy.

For me, Voodoo is at least 10c. I just can't find a smooth way up that thing.

Crawling Right is 11a. It has a hard enough crux but not too hard. I definitely wouldn't bump this one up and Rug Munchers down so that they're both 11b. Rug Munchers is far harder.

Trunk monkey is not 12a if you enter the crux from low...
The Rug was given 11b by danny, that grade seems fair.

I don't think that RM was ever given an 11b. It was thought to be 11+ from the get go.

of all the routes discussed so far in this thread, which one would you choose as being the best and why?
