Climbing next Summer - Looking for some advice!

Post by ickle_jo » Wed Aug 10, 2005 2:27 am

Hi,

I'm a 22yr old English lass who's looking to do an 8 month road trip round the US and Canada Jan-Sept.

The thing is I'll probably be on my own. I lead English E1 (USA 5.11 I think) and I'd have all my own gear. But I'm a bit warey of travelling around on my own, looking for climbing partners.

Do you think I'll have a problem finding people to climb with next Summer June/Aug time, and do you reckon it's safe!

If anyone has any tips on where else Id like to go - climbing, paddling or sightseeing round Canada or the US I'd be very grateful!

Also work?! I have instructoral quals, and extensive centre experience and a US Passport! Any recommendations there?!

Cheers for any help anyone can offer!

Jo

I cannot speak for the US though my sister has travelled extensively on her own and had no trouble. You will have no probelm in CAnada.

You will have a great trip I am sure!

Just curious.... isn't the "E" part of the English rating system used as a guide to how hurt you're going to get if you fall? Like E9 F7 is deathly hard.

Anyways, there shouldn't be any problems finding people to climb with. There are a lot of travellers that come to Squamish to climb in the summer months. Safe? I'm kinda picky on who I climb with. Espacially if I'm trying to push my limits. So.... I don't know.

Places to go out west for the activities you're into:

Squamish, Skaha (Penticton), Banff/Canmore.
