Seeking advice for first climb in Squamish

Post by regitzej@hotmail.com » Wed Oct 10, 2018 1:23 pm

Hi all,

My friend and I (two girls in our twenties) are coming to Vancouver end October, and would like to pay a visit yo Squamish for a day or two of climbing.

I have been climbing for a while, she is pretty new, and we do not have a lot of experience with outdoor climbing.

Might someone have some advice for us, for where to begin? Either bouldering or guided top rope (my friend does not have experience with rope). The guided trips I find are quite expensive. Is it possible to rent a crash pad somewhere and go for some bouldering on your own if you do not know the area? Is it fairly easy to navigate the area and the routes?

Appreciate any advice a lot! Would love to experience Squamish climbing!

Best, Regitze

Hello Regitze:

Buy or borrow a copy of the Squamish climbing guide books (both Kevin McLane and Marc Bourdon have published books). We have had unusually dry, sunny weather this October, so you might be in luck.

Enjoy,
Natsdad

Can I get Kevin's guide books anywhere online btw? Cheers for the recommendation, Natsdad.

MEC sells them. Here is one (of many) that might be helpful:

Maybe look into Lake Louise as well, gorgeous setting with amazing sport and trad climbing in all grades.
