Loose Bolts at The Crest in Chek

Post by Juan Pablo » Mon May 09, 2016 5:25 pm

Hi there,

I'm new to Squamish (and this forum). I have a concern regarding some (or all) of the bolting at The Crest in Chek. I was there today, and began up Skank- 11b. I noticed the first 3 bolts were loose and decided to back off. I'm unsure of the quality of the bolts higher on the route. This is not a case of loose bolt hangers, but instead the bolts themselves are rattling around in their holes. I have been sport climbing many years, and have never seen this before. I've not done any bolting, so i am not entirely sure what caused this, and i am even less sure how to fix it. I do know that this is a safety hazard and needs to be addressed. It seems this crag was mainly developed by one individual. For me, this automatically causes me to question the bolts on the remainder of the crag, which is unfortunate, because it is a nice looking wall. Anyway, if anyone knows what the best course of action is to deal with this, please let me know.

Many Thanks!
