Climbing Boulder and Slack Lines Coming to Downtown

Post by squamish climber » Tue Jun 17, 2014 9:24 am

Downtown Squamish is getting a climbing boulder at O’Siyam Pavilion Park and across the street, a new park on the shore of Mamquam Channel that will have slack lines and a bicycle pump track.

Big kudos to Mayor Rob Kirkham and councillors Susan Chapelle and Doug Race. Kirkham pushed for this project to go ahead despite the lack of corporate sponsors. Chapelle and Race suggested the boulder be covered. This will mean a rain day does not have to be a total bust.
Hopefully businesses and community groups will step forward with sponsoring the boulder. If community businesses can support the construction of a kids bike park at Brennan Park, why not a rock climbing boulder downtown? See this thread.

The climbing boulder makes great sense to me. It is a high viz salute to Squamish as a climbing town and will provide a demo for non-climbers to see climbing up close and even give it casual try. Plus it will bring more climbers downtown. Now a rest day for climbers can include a shopping stroll through the farmer’s market, take-out on the grass at O’Symiam Pavillion Park and a bouldering session.

Also looking forward to visiting the new park on Mamquam Channel. Work has started on ripping up the tracks removing the last obstacle to getting this park off the ground.

Excellent news Hevy, they picked the right guy to set up a slackline park. What will it look like? Are you still planning a hevyfest slackline festival?

Nice to hear that a new park is coming up on the shore of Mamquam Channel which will have slack lines as well as a bicycle pump track. I would like to congratulate Mayor Rob Kirkham and councillors Susan Chapelle and Doug Race for making this project a success!
