Climb and Conquer stories.

Post by joewtc » Mon Jul 15, 2013 4:30 pm

Hello everyone :D , my friends and I at the Vancouver Rock Climbing Group run a charity climbing program called Climb and Conquer http://vrcg.ca/climb-and-conquer/ where climbers mentor kids how to climb. We are open to any kids from age 4-18 and provide full subsidy to those who are in financial needs with the goal to use climbing to empower the kids. We currently do 3 monthly indoor sessions at the Hive, Cliffhanger Coquitlam and Richmond Oval. But we are hoping to expand to some Squamish sessions in the future soon when funding allows.

:D We are currently doing a weekly CNC blog series where we interview one person from the project and let them tell their stories of climbing and conquering. http://vrcg.ca/blog/ This week I interviewed a participant from the program and was greatly inspired. I hope this will provide some motivation for you too for your next 5.27R/X first ascent.

:D We are also recruiting people to join our CNC Climbing Team to compete in various climbing comps. We will wear Team T-shirts ($12) and compete as a team to increase awareness and support for the group. Open to all levels. All for fun and supporting a good cause.

Hello everyone, this past Tue, 15 people represented Team CNC to compete and have fun at the Hive TNT Bouldering Comp http://www.hiveclimbing.com/tnt-bouldering-comp/. I think more than 100 people competed and the Hive generously donated $5 per person to the Climbers Access Society BC. Next comp is August 20 and the Hive will donate to Climb and Conquer. Thank you Andrew (owner) and all the amazing staff! If you want to join us, let me know. It's open to all for fun and a good cause. : ) I want to invite everyone to the Hive Bouldering Competition Aug 20 Tue 6pm Open to ALL Level!. The Hive will generously donate $5 per participant to Climb and Conquer (CNC), a local not-for-profit which provides climbing access and mentorship to youth with full subsidy for youth/families who are in need.

This is an important event for multiple reasons:

1. It’s super fun for all levels including first time climbers. It’s not competitive but super fun and motivating. If you haven’t tried a comp. before, come!

2. CNC relies on community donations to keep our program cost-free to youth/families. Due to a funding loss from SportChek (they were closing), we only have $546.76 left and we need at least $2150.40 to operate for the next 12 months.

Sign up HERE. Come, climb for fun and a good cause.
