"Destination" routes/problems

Post by MCpl » Mon Apr 12, 2004 12:25 pm

Peter W. was suggesting that some of the new potential new routes at the Sanctuary will not be "Destination" routes.

For someone traveling here (Squamish) for the first time or simply going to an area in the Sea to Sky Corridor for the first time. What would be a "Destination" route/problem (Aid/Boulder/Sport/Trad)??

For sport I would say PET WALL... Most routes on that wall are good regardless of grade. I would also travel to climb Just can't do it. I really like that route.

If the work continues at chek (ie shoot to kill wall, the crest) I believe it will be the destination area in squamish.

Sorry I kind of ruined this post...

If you read what MCpl asked he is talking about a route not area. When I said pet wall that was because I like the majority of routes there and was to lazy to write each one.

So from now on list routes....

Thanks for the clarification.... I intended this thread for people with limited exprience with Squamish. What route would you recommend to someone like that?

Black water (12a) on pet wall is the best sport 12a in the corridor.
I really like practical horseman (12d or 13a) on the circus wall at chek just for the crux at the top.

Finally, someone else who likes Practical Horseman!
The top crux is super cool.
Do you think it's really 13a though?
It feels more like 12c or d.

My list of "destination routes" would go:
The Heifer
Bottomfeeder
Barraca
Pleasant Pheasant
Creepy Crawlers
Just Cant Do It
Ancient Heart
Serendipity
Rug Munchers

To be honest I don't think anyone comes to Squamish purely for the sport climbing anymore. If we had a couple of Pet Walls maybe that would change.

I bet you that after watching Rampage, someone will have some "destination" problems to get on.
