Missing Hangers on Feelin' Groovy Anchor

Post by johnL » Tue Jul 31, 2012 1:07 pm

I went up Feelin' Groovy on the Campground Wall last saturday, expecting to find an anchor at the top of the first pitch (as per the guide). I found two bolts without hangers (but not chopped, strangely). I understand why -- there is a perfect place for a gear anchor right there. But others might make the same decision I did, and think `warm up` + bolted anchor = light rack, and I wish I`d brought up an extra 1" cam to make a solid anchor (I got away with two bomber pieces, two bad pieces, and knowing my partner would cruise the pitch).

Anyways, it was a fun little climb (3/5).

It was originally one pitch, those anchors are for the bolted route up the dyke, just keep going a little more to the anchors on the ledge above. You can sling the studs with a nut though.

I can see how it would work as one pitch, I came very close to just running it out the rest of the way (but chickened out). If I were to do the climb again, I'd do it as a single pitch. And yes, I did secure a nut on one of the studs.
