Squamish council candidate a climber

Post by squamish climber » Fri Sep 23, 2011 12:22 pm

The Chief newspaper profiled three Squamish residents who have declared their candidacy for council in the November 19 municipal election.

All say economic development is an important issue in the election. One of the candidates, Phil Audet, who works as a surveyor told the Chief that he first came to Squamish for the climbing.

I'm not too familiar with Squamish politics and history but would this be the first candidate with a climbing background to run for council?

Another candidate, Nate Dolha put the Upper Mamquam Blind Channel on his agenda for needing a clear vision and guidelines for developers.

As I noted in another post, regardless if the candidates are climbers or not, access issues at Smoke Bluffs Park and the gondola proposal at the Chief gravel pit are bound to be issues in this election.

Susan Chapelle is running as well. She is a climber and a very strong advocate for the climbing community. Do your research, get to know her. Awesome woman.
