Shame - visiting climber's car stolen from Smoke Bluffs

Post by squamish climber » Fri Sep 02, 2011 10:48 pm

Haven't heard of many thefts lately but this one really sucks. From the Squamish Chief today (Sept 2/11)
SEPTEMBER 2, 2011
A recreational vehicle that had been stolen from the Smoke Bluffs parking lot last week was recovered by police, but not before a person or persons had stolen cash, cameras and a laptop computer from inside the vehicle.

Visitors from Austria who had been climbing in Smoke Bluffs Park reported that they saw the vehicle they had rented being driven away from the parking lot on Wednesday (Aug. 24) at around noon, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.

Later in the day, police located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Klahanie campground but upon further investigation, found that it had been ransacked and damaged. An undisclosed amount of cash and electronic equipment had also been stolen, Pride said. The vehicle was examined for forensic evidence and later returned to the Austrian visitors, he said.
