Survey: Trails in BC & Canada
Survey: Trails in BC & Canada
The following may be of interest to some who follow this forum:
Since November 2010, the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC has represented BC’s trails-related organizations at the National Trails Roundtable (NTR) meeting in Banff. The goals of the NTR were twofold - to promote a more cohesive trails community in Canada and to find opportunities for greater collaboration between the many trails organizations.
To obtain trail user comments on the process so far, an on-line trails survey is being distributed to as many trail-related individuals and groups as possible so that the NTR can either confirm or amend the results generated at Banff. The News Release provides a link to the Survey and you will need to refer to the Summary Report http://www.ntc-canada.ca/pdf/110706-Fin ... Report.pdf when you respond to the Survey.
As many of you already know, any discussion of recreational trails usually involves often contentious dialogue between the two main types of trail users, namely motorized users,( ie. those riding off-road vehicles such as snow mobiles and all-terrain vehicles ) and non-motorized or self-propelled users (ie. hikers, skiers, pedal-bikers etc). Generally, the motorized users appear to be better organized than the non-motorized users and therefore we anticipate that there will be a large response from the motorized groups. We are therefor requesting that non-motorized users take time (perhaps 10-20 minutes) to read this material and provide their comments in the survey so that the NTR will receive many comments from both sides of this debate.

To respond to the Survey it will be necessary to review the National Trails Roundtable Summary Report, available at http://ntc-canada.ca/pdf/110706-Final-N ... Report.pdf. Other supporting info is at [url]http://www.ntc-canada.ca
he deadline for responding to the survey is the end of this September (although responses received later than that date might still be reviewed).
If we don't make our non-motorized voices heard, we will be drowned out by the snowmobile and ATV groups.
