Sonnie Trotter frees Edge of Pan

Post by squamish climber » Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:08 am

Sonnie Trotter posted on his blog yesterday that he climbed the crux pitch of the new free climb he opened on the Pan Wall. The wall is one of the steepest and most exposed on the Chief, located to the right of the Squamish Buttress. The old aid route "Edge of Pan" is 5 pitches 5.8, A3. Sonnie says the line goes at 5.13 no easier no harder. He calls the 45m crux corner pitch "one of the single best rock climbs I have ever done, period."

He says he's hoping to do a ground up ascent via “Never, Never Land” 5.12 when he gets back from his latest travels and work.

Congrats Sonnie and post some pictures when you can.

Some stellar, hard multi-pitch free routes have been established recently. In addition to Sonnie's add Gravity Bong a 9 pitch 5.13 route up Kashmir Wall put up by Colin Moorhead, Tony Richardson and Jason Kruk

It's on the Prow Wall, just right of (and sharing some pitches with) Teddy Bear's Picnic, rather than on the Kashmir side of the gully.

There just might be some nuggets from the "Edge Of Pan" @ the Festival slideshow :-)
