Eldred Valley Climbing

Post by solojourneys » Fri Jun 10, 2011 7:38 pm

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether the road into the Eldred Valley is snow-free? I'm thinking of climbing on the psyche slab and maybe heading over to Amon Rudh.
Thanks for any beta you can provide :-) Cheers, Jesse James

I'm by no means an authority on the area, but since no one else has responded yet...
I would be surprised if there was still snow on the road, I don't think it goes particularily high. Around Squamish, the roads are snow-free to around 1000m. Maybe someone here can offer up a contact number for someone over there. Another option would be contacting the forestry office over there and enquiring about the status of the road. You would need to know the correct name of the roads for this.

Good luck! And don't forget your bug repellent!

The road to the the Eldred (goat main) currently is fine for 2wd.
The road itself, although 30+ miles in,doesn't reach higher than 100m above sea level.
So, access to Psyche Slab,West Main wall,Carag Dur no Problem.
As for Amon Rudh, bit more involved, obviously.
There is probably still snow at the base of wall. Worth a try!
Anyway, some more info here:http://www.mountainproject.com/v/powell-river/106189297
I live/ climb in Powell River area, feel free to contact.
