Squamish climber stabbed - taken to LGH

Post by squamish climber » Wed Apr 27, 2011 10:12 am

Over on the Preview of new route at Shannon thread Jeremy mentions as he was being treated for a nasty gash to his wrist as a result of an accident cleaning a new route, another local climber was brought into the ER with a knife wound.

But this was no accident. According to an article in the Squamish Chief paper, the 37 year-old was allegedly assaulted and stabbed by an 18 year-old outside a house party on Sunday night. The climber was taken to Lions Gate Hospital. He suffered stab wounds to his mid-back.

The 18 year-old charged with aggravated assault he also faces charges for breach of court-ordered conditions not to possess a weapon and not to be in contact with one of the males who was involved in the verbal confrontation.

My best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to this climber.

Here is the article from the Squamish Chief website:
A 37-year-old man was taken to Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver to be treated for stab wounds after an 18-year-old allegedly stabbed the older man during an altercation outside a Squamish house party on the weekend.

On Sunday (April 24) at 10 p.m., Squamish RCMP received a report from Squamish General Hospital that the victim was being transported to Lions Gate suffering from stab wounds to his mid-back, RCMP Staff Sgt. Guy Pollock said in a statement.

The incident took place after a group of males outside the house where the party was taking place got into an argument with the 18-year-old as he was walking down the street, Pollock said. The argument turned into a physical altercation and the older man was stabbed with a knife, he said.

Police investigating the incident identified the suspect and arrested him the next day for aggravated assault. He was held in police custody and then transported to court. In addition to the aggravated assault charge, he faces charges for breach of court-ordered conditions not to possess a weapon and not to be in contact with one of the males who was involved in the verbal confrontation, Pollock said.

The young man is “well known to police,” Pollock said, adding that since 2009, his name has been cited on 25 separate files as the subject of the complaint, a suspect, or a person charged with an offence.
