SAS AGM Reminder and Malamute News

Post by Tyrone Brett » Fri Oct 01, 2010 12:25 pm

2010 AGM: This Sunday, October 3rd

Just a friendly reminder that the Squamish Access Society 2010 AGM will be held this Sunday at the Howe Sound Brew Pub Garibaldi Room at 6pm.

There will be some slide shows with a local flavour: Colin Moorhead and Jeremy Smith on Squamish-related new routing. Also, just by attending you're in the running for either a Mammut 9.8 or a Beal 9.1, and flashed crash pad, among other schwag.

We are strongly encouraging members and non-members alike to attend and discuss the current state of climbing access issues and society related matters. The agenda is open but will be covering among other topics:

- Re-bolting initiative
- Climber advisory group with BC parks
- Malamute
- capacity building of the society

The strength and health of the climbing community depends on the engagement of its individual members- please come out and contribute your thoughts.

MALAMUTE: Part of Stawamus Provincial Park!

The SAS is proud to have been the instigating party in the initiative which has led to the Malamute becoming part of Stawamus Provincial Park. From our work before and during the logging incident, to our advocacy throughout our existence with the public and private sector, the recent announcement by the government is one of our proudest and most substantial achievements.

Special thanks is due to Kevin McLane and his passion and initiative, Mountain Equipment Co-op (in particular Laurie Edwards for quarterbacking), and the BC Land Conservancy with Bill Turner.

Please note that the Lower Malamute climbing restriction situation in regards to the railway right of way remains.
