Fatal accident at Comic Rocks

Post by squamish climber » Mon Jul 05, 2010 4:14 pm

I noticed this in the Chief newspaper.
On Friday (June 25) at 8 p.m., Squamish RCMP was called to control traffic on Highway 99 between Furry Creek and Britannia Beach while emergency crews transported an injured 42-year-old Valleycliffe resident to hospital by helicopter. Chris Hansen was climbing on Comic Rock, located a few metres off the highway, when an as-yet undetermined accident occurred relating to his gear, according to RCMP. Hansen was conscious upon transport, but died the following day in hospital.
Condolences to Chris Hansen's family and friends.

Sad news indeed. May he rest in peace. Condolences and best wishes to his family and friends.

The month of June was really unusually bad for accidents.

In the course of the three weeks before this accident there was one major rescue from the Apron and a ground fall at Pet.

Take care out there everyone. Climb safe.

Would anybody happen to know the vehicle Chris and his partner were driving (parked of course) at the time of the accident?

Sorry for going off topic, but I believe I was there that day and I'm trying to piece something together...

Thanks and condolences to the family.
