REEL ROCK film tour coming to Squamish

Post by changlama » Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:41 pm

The 2009 REEL ROCK film tour http://www.reelrocktour.com is coming to Squamish on Wednesday, October 28th at the Howe Sound Inn Brew Pub.

Tickets are $10 advance, $12 at the door.
Advance tickets available at Valhalla Pure and Climb On.

The Reel Rock Film Tour is an annual showcase of the best new films about climbing, highlights include the world premiere of Progression and a preview of First Ascent, a new series for the Nat Geo Adventure Channel.

Climber or not, the Reel Rock festival is a must see for adrenaline junkies, outdoor enthusiasts, film lovers, and those seeking some kick a$% motivation. Beautifully shot in locations around the world like Patagonia and Yosemite, the films follow the emotional and physical journeys of the sports' top athletes as they push themselves to the extreme. There are definitely more than a few heart stopping moments where you'll stare at the screen mouth gaping in disbelief of what you are watching.

One of the crazier stories chronicles Alex Honnold's free solo of Half Dome in Yosemite. Honnold climbed about 2200 feet alone and unprotected in just a matter of hours.

These films are great, I hope to see lots of you at the pub for the show!

THE FILMS
REEL ROCK 09 features the world premiere of Progression, the latest release from the state-of-the-art filmmakers at Big UP Productions, as well as the exhilarating new series First Ascent from the culling-edge producers at Sender Films and Nat Geo Adventure Channel. Also in the lineup are the two winning short films from this year's highly competitive REEL ROCK Filmmaking Competition.

PROGRESSION, Big UP Productions (world premiere)
Progression tells the story of the world's best climbers and their efforts to advance the sport in all its forms. Chris Sharma climbs the world's hardest sport route, Jumbo Love. Kevin Jorgeson pushes bouldering to dangerous new heights on Ambrosia in the California Buttermilks. Patxi Usobiaga and Johanna Ernst train like Olympians for the World Cup competitions. Tommy Caldwell ups the ante on Yosemite's big walls, and much more.

FIRST ASCENT: THE SERIES, Sender Films and Nat Goo Adventure Channel (sneak preview)
First Ascent: The Series is co-produced by the innovative producers at Sender Films and Nat Goo Adventure Channel. This exciting new series features top athletes attempting unclimbed walls and peaks around the world from Patagonia and Brazil to Yosemite and beyond. Slated to air in over 150 countries starting in January 2010, Sender Films and Nat Goo Adventure Channel are proud to offer a special preview of First Ascent: The Series to REEL ROCK audiences.

RR09 FILMMAKING COMPETITION WINNERS, selected by voters online (2 shorts)
Building on the success and popularity of the 200B REEL ROCK Filmmaking Competition in which tens of thousands of people voted for their favorite action/inspiration and humor/spoof films online – REEL ROCK has launched the 2009 competition - this lime with new rules and prizes. Two winning filmmakers will rake in cash and grand prize packages from REEL ROCK sponsors. The winning films, one from each genre category - as chosen by voters online and REEL ROCK judges - will be featured on the 2009 REEL ROCK Film Tour in over 100 locations worldwide.
