Games Idiots Play and/or Godforsaken Land

Post by andypl100 » Tue Aug 04, 2009 4:42 pm

Anyone climb Games Idiots Play or Godforsaken Land on the Squaw?

The guidebooks both make them sound good, but I've never heard of anyone doing them.

Good routes? I've done the Great Game and Birds of Prey so I'm looking for something different.

GodForsaken Land is worth doing but I can't comment on Games Idiots Play.

GFL is probably not as good as the Great Game due to a few A0 sections but there are definitely some worthy pitches (I recall that last being a very good, steep 10+).

I'd agree with Bourdon's 3/5 star rating.....

GFL is not that great. It is great tho if you enjoy A0 bolt ladders :D

The Great Game is 5x better and has NO aid.

God Forsaken Land. The free climbing is great; the (numerous) bolt ladders and transitions from aid to free are not. Worth doing once maybe.

Games Idiots Play. This is my least favorite route on Slhanay/Squaw. We bailed several pitches up and finished on the Great Game... the climbing was so unenjoyable. Not recommended. It is a contrived route, following slabs beside dirty cracks.

If you're up for it, why not try Right Wing? Download a Topo. I cleaned it up 2 years ago. All but 10m of the entire route is crack climbing. And the Filibuster Pitch makes the Split Pillar look relaxed. Be ready for 5.10 battle! Pay close attention to the gear recommendations on the topo. I've heard of some partied backing off recently because they didn't have the big pieces.
